If you cannot accommodate a lot of overhead or need a boost in your income, consider Ecommerce. It requires little or no start up fees, and not much overhead. Ecommerce can help make money safely.
A lot of people think it is expensive or you need certain skills in order to start ecommerce or to add it to an existing business. This is simply untrue. Starting an ecommerce business is easy when you go about it through a step by step process.
1. In any business, it is smart to create a business plan, and the same is true for ecommerce. The next step is to choose a product or service to offer and to find funding for this. You will then need to establish a customer base and way to expand it rapidly, while maintaining excellent service. Making sure you have a system to manage the start to finish process is key.
2. Find a good ‘devil’s advocate’. Whether you are experienced in business or a total newcomer, it never hurts to bounce ideas off another person. They can point out any obvious flaws in your plan. Perhaps your product is heavy or otherwise expensive to ship, or they may require more storage than you have available. Regardless of the problems, a good friend and/or experienced business person may be able to offer a much needed second perspective.
3. You will need to set up the online store. You will probably need a website, secure server, shopping cart software and a method for processing credit cards. It sounds like a lot, but a lot of companies provide free or inexpensive ecommerce bundled packages that have all of the necessary features. Starting an auction site is more expensive and most people prefer ecommerce websites.
4. Market, market, market. You can do this in person by telling as many people as possible about your new ecommerce site. You can also join webrings and business directories. Many people find that purchasing advertising from a search engine such as Google can be helpful. Nontraditional methods might include joining active message boards and putting your ecommerce site’s address in your signature.
Starting up an ecommerce site is easy, as you can see. So not taking advantage of this sales tool would be crazy.
